Gulmarg a beautiful town in the Baramulla district of the Indian commanded union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The town is located in the Pir Panjal Range in the western Himalayas. It is situated at an altitude of about 2703 meters. Gulmarg Originally called Gauri Marg which means “the path of Devi Gauri”, which was later on changed to Gulmarg by Yusuf Shah of Chak Dynasty. Gulmarg, the meadow of flowers, is the perfect destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers. The verdurous green landscapes, tall pine, and deodar trees, deep valleys, snow-covered mountains give you a picture-perfect view to capture for your memories. Gulmarg is one of the most famous skiing destinations in India. Even Gulmarg also owns the world’s second-highest Gondola ride. It is also known for the top listed honeymoon destinations in India. It also becomes a hub lot of courses on trekking, skiing, and snowboarding are offered by IISM. Gulmarg has also been a favorite destination for shooting of several Bollywood films.

How to reach By Air: The Nearest airport to Gulmarg is in Shrinagar, which is 56kms far. Through air is the easiest way to reach Gulmarg.

How to reach By Train: There is no direct train route to reach Gulmarg. The nearest railway station is Jammu railway station. It is almost 290Kms from Gulmarg.

How to reach By Bus: Gulmarg is well-connected with regular bus services from Srinagar. From Srinagar frequently buses running, so you can choose deluxe and luxury buses operated by both government and private agencies.

Best Time to Visit: Well, Gulmarg is a year-round destination. One can visit here anytime. During winters temperature falls as low -4°. It is suitable for snow activities like skiing and snowboarding. In the summer weather become so pleasant, it is an ideal time to enjoy outdoors with family and loved ones.

1.Gulmarg Gondola

Gulmarg Gondola ride is one of the famous things to do here for travelers. It is also recorded as the highest and longest cable car in Asia. The Gondola ride has two steps Gulmarg to Kongdoori and Kongdoori to Apharwat Peak, these two steps completing the entire ride. The first point of the ride takes around 9 minutes and the second stage takes about 12 minutes to complete. If you are visiting Gulmarg, so don’t miss the chance to ride on Asia’s highest and longest cable car.

2.Alpather Lake

This Lake located 13Km far from Gulmarg.this beautiful natural attraction, situated at the foot of the Apharwat twin peaks, surrounded by rocky mountains and the grassy meadows. This lake is situated at an altitude of over 4500 feet of sea level. This lake is a perfect destination for the nature lover, who loves to capture nature through there photography than Alpather Lake is an ideal place for those. You can also enjoy horse riding, trekking, hills climbing, and many other open-air activities in the summer months.

3.Gulmarg Golf Course

One of the largest golf courses in India, situated in the lower ranges of Gulmarg. The Gulmarg Golf Course was inaugurated in 2011 by Omar Abdullah, then Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. Slowly this Golfe Course becomes one of the popular golfing destinations in India. Here are some course clubs to learn how to play golf or get some specialized guidance to develop your game. The club plays host to many competitions and events.

4.Gulmarg Biosphere Reserve

Gulmarg Biosphere Reserve Containing nearly 200 square kilometers. It is famous for its biodiversity, as the home of numerous species of flora, fauna, many types of animal and birds, the spectator will amaze to see the view of this reserve. The rare species like Musk Deer is the main attraction of this reserve. Some other species of animals like Leopard, Brown Bear, Black Bear, and Red Fox, will visible here during the winters. The reserve becomes an ideal abode for migratory birds such as Griffon Vulture, Blue Rock Pigeon Monal, Kashmir Rollers. This is also one of the famous tourist destinations for nature and wildlife lovers.

5.Strawberry Valley

This refreshing Strawberry Field is one of the most attractive places to visit in Gulmarg Srinagar. During the summer, the valley gets life again. fresh Strawberries are ready to be plucked and enjoyed. Visitors can walk to this natural part of Gulmarg or take a ride. One can enjoy the visible munificence of Mother Nature at the Strawberry Valley. During winter one can also enjoy guided trek and horse riding on the snowy path.

6.Ferozepur Nallah

Ferozepur Nallah is 5Km from Gulmarg, it is also known as Shinmahinyu. It is a fascinating hill stream passing through grassy valleys between the beautiful Chinamarg and Nurpur Pass. Locals use the stream as the source of drinking water, They believe that the water of the stream blessed by the spirit of the mountains. Ferozepur Nallah is also famous for trout fishing, and other outdoor activities like camping and picnic. This place enough to mesmerize you as they offer you mesmeric views of the Valleys and gives you the opportunities to relax in mother nature’s lap.

Timings: March to October is the ideal time to visit here.

7. St. Mary’s Church

St. Mary’s Church is one of the famous tourist attractions place Gulmarg places to visits lists. Constructed in the early twentieth century, built as victorian styled monument.St. Mary’s Church gives you a touch of history and serenity. More like a small countryside chapel in appearance, the church made by gray stone and has a steep green roof with wooden frills. It is located near the Golf Course in Gulmarg, so you can explore it easily through local transports if you are in Gulmarg. This beautiful backdrop surrounded by green meadows, alpine trees, and high snow-clad peaks, It looks the most glistering during the winter season especially when it is covered with snow. This place, not just for religious travelers but also perfect for photography lovers.

8.Baba Reshi Shrine

Baba Reshi Shrine built in the 15th century, in Mughal and Persian style, and it is one of the most visited religious places in Gulmarg. It is situated at an altitude of about 7,000 feet and located a few kilometers from Tangmarg and near the Gulmarg. The shrine and its enclosing garden is a tourist attraction as well as a destination for pilgrims visiting the shrine. The shrine is dedicated to Baba Reshi, a Muslim scholar & saint who lived and meditated at this place, which became the site of his tomb and a shrine for his followers.

Ideal Time to Visit: All year, go early to avoid crowds.

9.The Maharani Temple

The Maharani Temple of Gulmarg is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and was built about 100 years ago by Mohini Bai Sisodia, wife of Maharaja Hari Singh in 1915 the Dogra Kings of Jammu & Kashmir. The Temple is situated in the middle of Gulmarg It is Also known as the Rani Temple or Mohineshwar Shivalaya, The royal Temple, situated on a hilltop, is surrounded by various budget hotels that offer great service, warm hospitability, and local food. It is noted as the spot where famous stars Rajesh Khanna and Mumtaz hit movie Aap ki Kasam’s legendary Bollywood song “Jai Jai Shiv Shankar” was shot.

Timings: Climbing in winter li’l a bit difficult, so try to visit here in summers.

10.Apharwat Peak

Apharwat Peak is situated on approx 4,390 meters above sea level. It receives heavy snowfall and remains covered with snow most of the year. It lies in the second phase of the cable car ride from Gulmarg and reaching this point completely depends on weather conditions. The remarkable thing is, it’s just a few kilometers far from LOC(Line Of Control). The mesmerizing  Apharwat Peak realizes us how tiny we are in front of nature’s wonder. Apart from skiing, heli-skiing and trekking are other preferred sports here. Heli-skiing is a sport that means you being dropped from the helicopter to your selected peak and then taking a selected way of descent from there.
